Chicanná was a town built by the Maya civilization during the Classic period (600 A.D. to 830 A.D.). The name of the site comes from its most renowned building, Structure II, which translates to "House of the Serpent Mouth" in the Mayan language. In Mayan, chi means "mouth", can means "serpent", and na means "house". The site is situated two kilometers west of Becán in the Mexican state of Campeche on the Yucatán peninsula. It is one of 45 other archaeological sites found within that region.
