Its dynamic ecosystem transforms with each season, revealing different and impressive characteristics: floods, dry seasons, flowering, birdsong, and wildlife cycles unfold before the eyes of those who venture along its lush trails and rivers. The Jaguar Express experience is part of a complete 5-day, 4-night program, with accommodation at a charming lodge along the Transpantaneira Highway. The adventure begins with a transfer from Cuiabá Airport, with departures at 1:20 PM or 5:00 PM, depending on your flight.
Along the way, you will feel as if you are already on a photographic safari. Breathtaking landscapes and frequent wildlife encounters accompany the journey until the asphalt gives way to dirt roads and your immersion in the Pantanal truly begins. Get your camera ready, as the guide will make strategic stops for wildlife and nature observation.
Day 1 | Cuiabá - Pousada Araras Eco Lodge
Reception at Cuiabá Airport. Brief introduction to the region and the journey. Departure at 1:20 PM or 5:00 PM, depending on the arrival flight, to the Pantanal. Part of the journey is along paved roads through rural areas. The “km 0” of the Transpantaneira Highway begins in Poconé (108 km from Cuiabá). Traveling along the Transpantaneira Park Road is, in fact, a true photographic safari, with frequent stops for wildlife observation and to admire the unusual landscape. Upon arrival at Pousada Araras, reception and accommodation. Introductory walk around the lodge, with an explanation of our various conservation projects. Continue to the Garça Lookout, a 12-meter-high observation tower, to enjoy the sunset. After dinner, a walk under the starlit sky to observe the wildlife and nocturnal habits of the Pantanal. Day 2 | Pousada Araras Eco Lodge
After breakfast, departure for the Clarinho River. Rowboat trip along the Clarinho River, exploring the banks of the riparian forest and mangrove areas. Giant otters live here and, with luck, may be seen playing with their families. There is also the possibility of fishing for piranhas, a fun and challenging activity, as they are skilled at stealing the bait from the hook without the angler noticing. After a pleasant rest in hammocks set up at the campsite, return to the lodge. We end this enriching day with a hike to the Bugio Tower, our highest tower, standing 25 meters high and offering a spectacular view over the Pantanal plains. Day 3 | Pousada Araras Eco Lodge
After a very early breakfast, depart on a photographic safari towards the end of the Transpantaneira Park Road, Porto Jofre. Upon arrival, board our speedboat for a safari along the Cuiabá River, navigating its banks, beaches, and bays, where you may have the opportunity to spot hundreds of birds, giant otters, capybaras, or jaguars. The probability of encountering the largest feline in the Americas in this region and during the jaguar season is over 90%. Picnic lunch. Return to the embarkation point in Porto Jofre in the late afternoon. Enjoy the photographic safari on the return journey at sunset. Dinner at the lodge.
Day 4 | Pousada Araras Eco Lodge
Right after breakfast, discover another one of our areas by hiking along the Ronco Trail. After afternoon tea, enjoy a 2- to 3-hour photographic safari in a specially equipped safari truck, in search of wildlife along the Transpantaneira Park Road. After dinner, take the opportunity to check with your guide the list of animals you had the opportunity to encounter during your visit.
Day 5 | Pousada Araras Eco Lodge - Cuiabá
Early-morning walk through the Pantanal to enjoy the awakening of this incredible ecosystem. Breakfast and departure for Cuiabá at 7:30 AM or 12:30 PM, depending on your flight. Stops will be made along the Transpantaneira Highway for photographs.
